Welcome
Donegal's landscape provides a key inspiration for much of my work. My paintings document scenes that I have made a connection with. The mountain of Muckish regularly frequents my work, although it is permanent, the mountain is forever transforming due to the eternally changing climate. This climate offers me unlimited and unique opportunities for painting.
I like to paint on wood, with a minimum of priming, letting the line of the grain and the colour of the wood show through. There is also consideration of the internal lines of the compositions, for example the horizon line, the sky-line and the tide-line. Even my unique style which adopts 'boxy' brushstrokes adds to the drama occurring in between.
Colour is also a crucial element in my paintings. There is a consistency in my palette where foreboding blues dominate. These colours surround me constantly, I see them everywhere.
